Florida Forever Becomes Law
Yesterday (June 30) Governor Crist signed into law the Florida Forever successor bill (Senate bill 542). The legislation extends the Florida Forever program through 2020 at $300 million a year. The new law goes into effect today (July 1). Our sincere appreciation to all of you who helped advocate for Florida Forever. Your support made all of the difference! A historic milestone, the signing of the Florida Forever bill should not allow us to think that the big job of protecting Florida's environment is over. The legislature must appropriate funds to launch Florida Forever bonds in the budget each and every year. It is very important that all of us keep reminding our legislators and other decision-makers of the many benefits of Florida Forever in their communities. There will be 30 or more brand new legislators in Tallahassee next Legislative Session -- it's never too early to start reaching out to them! The Florida Forever Coalition will stay in touch with you via e-mail updates and alerts through 2008 and as we anticipate the 2009 Legislative Session. There are a number of implementation issues with the new law, on which we will provide information. We will also be preparing new materials and adding new tools to the coalition's Web site (www.supportfloridaforever.org) over the coming months. If you have any suggestions for resources or information that would be helpful to you in making the case for Florida Forever, please e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
