| Parking Day! |

From our friends with the Trust for Public Land: Dear Jacksonville friends,Please help The Trust for Public Land and the City of Jacksonville celebrate Park(ing) Day downtown for the first time! On National Park(ing) Day, Friday September 19, parking spots around the country in city centers are turned into temporary parks. It's a creative way to draw attention to the need for more public parks in urban areas. The event started in 2006, and last year's boasted over 150 park(ing) spots across more then 30 cities around the world. It's an all volunteer event and The Trust For Public Land website (www.tpl.org/parkingday) has lots of info about starting or joining a park, including a how-to manual and a list of all participating cities. The Trust for Public Land invites you to participate by having your organization design/sponsor a park, pass this on to others you think may be interested, or come out and take pictures/video. A park can be many things: a place to hear music, exercise, surf the net, escape the heat, or read a new book. Flip through photos of some of last years parks and get inspired to start your own park this year: http://www.flickr.com/groups/parkingday/ Please see the attached information sheet and reply to this e-mail (or call) by August 26 to let us know if you plan to participate this year. The Trust for Public Land will be coordinating with the city to reserve your spots and get the word out. Let's get together and show everyone just how creative and green we can be in Jacksonville! Thanks, Andrea ****************************** San Francisco art collective REBAR first created "PARK(ing)" in 2005 to re-imagine the potential of the metered parking space. In 2006, in collaboration with TPL, REBAR founded "PARK(ing) Day": a global exploration of the creative potential of streets.
