| Salinity Threat to St. Johns River |

The St. Johns River is Under Attack! Once again the health of the St. Johns River is threatened. A recent report compiled by scientists at the St. Johns River Water Management District forecasts that salinity levels in the St. Johns River could rise by about one-fifth if the shipping channel is deepened from forty to forty-five feet. A recent article on Jacksonville.com highlights some of the details of the study and how it could affect certain portions of the river. This large of an increase in the salinity of the river could potentially have a drastic effect on wildlife and plant-life in certain parts of the river. According to the study the most affected areas will be Talleyrand area and near the Fuller Warren Bridge where salinity levels could increase as much as twenty-three percent.
