| Still Fighting for Florida Forever |
If you can, please consider calling the legislators included in this message and expressing your support for Florida Forever.Conservation Friends,
Yesterday afternoon the
FL Senate passed a Florida Forever Successor Bill by
special order: SB0542.
This
is good news and we owe many thanks to help
from our friends Senators Ken Pruitt and Burt Saunders
for their efforts in getting a Senate FF Bill passed with
funding of 300 million for 10 yrs. Although this is not at the
funding levels the Coalition has sought and not a perfect Bill, we
are supportive of the Senate FF Bill & will continue to
work with the Senate on its passage.
The
bad news... while the House does have a 10 yr FF renewal
Bill-- it undermines the conservation purposes of the Florida
Forever Program and does not include funding.
21
Budget Conference Cmte. members will begin work TODAY
on reconciling the joint House & Senate budgets
and will determine if Florida Forever will end on July 1,
2008 or continue at appropriate funding levels of at least 300
million for another 10 yrs.
WE NEED YOUR PHONE CALLS & EMAILS
TODAY!!!
There
are four key legislators that sit on the Budget Conferee committee
that we need you to contact & urge to fund Florida Forever
at appropriate levels today. Getting the Senate FF Bill
passed is good, but not we will not be
successful if there is no funding allocated to
the program.
The 4
Budget Conferee Reps & Senators include Representatives Samson
& Mayfield; and Senators Carlton & Alexander.
Our
window of opportunity to persuade this cmte. to invest in the
state's most important environmental protection program is only a
few days. Budget negotiations have already begun and your call
today could make a world of difference. Please take 5 minutes of
your time and call or email these 4 legislators
today urging them to invest in the Florida Forever Program
today.
Thank you in advance
for being one of the many individuals that are working hard to
preserve Florida's valuable natural resources. Your
phone calls and emails could help determine if Florida will
have the ability to preserve remaining critical landscapes that
sustain our large tourism industry, our working forests &
agricultural lands, and provide us with clean air, clean water, and
healthy forests.
