Get an Internship With Us

The Public Trust proudly hires students from law schools and undergraduate programs to serve in our intern/extern program.  These students are given real-life assignments and provide meaningful assistance on a variety of projects.  We take on new students every semester and during the summer.  So, if you are interested in an internship or externship with the Public Trust, send us your resume, a current transcript, and a writing sample to john@publictrustlaw.org.

The Public Trust created our internship program in honor and memory of Bill Brinton who passed away in June of 2017. Bill was one of Northeast Florida’s most effective attorney-advocates for environmental protection. Each Bill Brinton intern receives a stipend of $2000 per semsester.

Our inaugural Bill Brinton legal interns from the University of Florida helped develop our practical operations manual to facilitate Clean Water Act actions. This extensive manual will enable the Public Trust to fill the gap in enforcement that currently exists in Florida for facilities violating their permits. Not only will successful CWA lawsuits benefit our waterways, but these lawsuits will also likely be a funding source for the Public Trust as attorney’s fees can be awarded to prevailing parties. Our Interns also provided our organization with vital information that will be used to advocate for policy changes for agricultural and other toxic non-point source pollution.

Both Citizens for a Scenic Florida & Scenic Jacksonville are proud to support one Bill Brinton scholarship each per year.
